Things To Do in Melbourne

With strongholds in film, television and the arts, Melbourne is considered the country’s cultural capital. Throw in a tram system that goes everywhere, great weather and plenty to see and do and you’ve got a perfect vacation spot.

Victorian Melbourne
Walk north from Flinders Street Station on Swanston Street to take in St. Paul’s Cathedral and ornate Victorian-era shopping arcades, or relax and sightsee aboard the world’s largest tram system.

Visit the Gardens
Melbourne’s Royal Botanical Gardens, on the south bank of the Yarra River, are considered one of the most beautiful public spaces in the world. In addition to river walks and tree-lined paths, this vast space contains an herb garden, lakes, ponds, and wide expanses of green lawn.

Have Dinner on the Water
Among the most popular boat tours on the Yarra River are the evening dinner cruises. In addition to the meal and the relaxing atmosphere, there’s the romantic backdrop of Melbourne itself, sparkling beneath southern stars.

Join the Arts Crowd
Take the tram to Fitzroy, heart of Melbourne’s art and café culture. By day, Brunswick Street is the main venue for galleries, quirky shops and cafes; by night, it’s the place for live music, clubs and pubs. For upscale boutique shopping, cross over to Gertrude Street.

See the Sea
St. Kilda, Melbourne’s colorful beachfront suburb, is just a tram ride away. Stroll Alcand and Fitzroy Streets for shops and cafes, then walk over to Luna Park and ride the world’s oldest operating roller coaster. Keep your eyes wide open at the top, for the view of Port Phillip Bay is spectacular.
